Can you keep global warming under 2°C?
A carbon budget is the maximum CO₂ we can emit while limiting warming to a specific target. To stay under 1.5°C, we have roughly 500 gigatons remaining. At current rates (~40 Gt/year), that's about 12 years.
CO₂ stays in the atmosphere for hundreds of years. Every decision locks in emissions for decades. The difference between 1.5°C and 2°C means hundreds of millions more people facing climate impacts.
We're in a critical decade. Decisions made now determine whether we limit warming to safe levels or face catastrophic change. The good news? We have the technology - we need rapid action.
